HOW TO SHED FAT AND WEIGHT AND INCREASE OVERALL HEALTH
THE BENEFITS OF INTERMITTENT FASTING
Hello everyone. May all God's blessings be upon you for a prosperous and glorious 2018. Recently, I ran across a video on the YouTube channel "Tech Insider" and they featured a fabulous video on the benefits of intermittent fasting. After watching the video, I was intrigued to give it a try. In December, I decided to do a liquid diet with intermittent fasting part of the protocol. I started the month at 203 pounds. By the time I reached the end of my liquid diet on December 30th, I had lost a total of 13 pounds. I reached my mental goal of 190 pounds. I was thrilled with the results. Furthermore, I received amazing results with my jogging program as well. I cut about 3 minutes off of my 3 mile program or 1 minute per mile. Mind you, I am 46 years old. The fasting has had immediate results. Below I would like to summarize some of the main points from the Tech Insider video that truly inspired me. I would also encourage you to watch the video for yourself as well. It will trigger beneficial results within 2-3 weeks for you.
Most intermittent fasters work within a program where meals are consumed within an 8 hour time frame and 16 hours is spent in fasting mode. Within my program, I typically went 14-18 hours fasting. The most difficult part of the liquid diet while fasting was the 3rd day. I had headaches and lethargy. Once my body adjusted that evening, I started to see immediate fat and weight loss. I also never experienced another headache. My energy levels were fantastic.
Here are some facts about the energy created from food. When you eat, some of the energy is store within the liver as glycogen. Glycogen levels get low after 10-12 hours of not eating. People tend to get irritable or cranky at this point. Some folks terms this as "hangry". That said, something very interesting happens at this point within the body. To ward off starvation, the body's fat cells release fat that instantly travel to the liver where it is converted to energy for the body and the brain. Blood samples have shown that people who undergo intermittent fasting have a 60% increase in energy from the fat. The biggest change occurs after the 18 hour mark.
The process of fasting puts the body into a state known as "ketosis". The process of burning fat releases chemicals called "ketones". When the ketones reach the brain, they trigger the release of a chemical called BDNF(Brain-derived neurotrophic factor). BDNF helps build and strengthen neurons and neural transmitters responsible for learning and memory. In fact, a boost of ketones for dementia patients produced results in as early as 6 weeks.
Adding fatty foods to your diet and reducing the intake of carbohydrates will help but studies showed that intermittent fasting helped boost ketone levels as much as 20 times more than people who did not fast. Most Americans never reach ketosis and, as a result, not enough ketones are released to promote optimum health.
Including fasting in your overall regime could have extremely beneficial benefits to your mind, body and spirit. I hope you make the conscious decision today to realize your health can improve substantially with this one addition. I hope this information will help you on your journey toward better happiness and health. I was inspired by the video I saw and I pray that this information inspires others. OM NAMASHIVAYA
